The PRP Injection Process

Platelet-rich plasma treatment is a procedure that uses your own blood to treat a range of painful conditions. We remove most of your red blood cells and plasma, leaving a high concentration of rich platelets. The platelets contain all the growth factors you need for healing. The resulting plasma then is injected directly where it hurts.

PRP releases growth factors in high concentrations and even stimulates stem cells, which also heal damaged or degenerative tissue. At ReBalance treatment clinic, we bring a wealth of experience to our PRP injection treatments. You can get PRP knee injections, PRP hip injections, PRP elbow injections, and more. In addition to back pain, we use PRP injections to treat:

  • Myofascial pain syndrome
  • Muscle spasms in your neck
  • Shoulder pain
  • Knee pain
  • Elbow pain
  • Hip pain
  • Chronic pain

Platelet-Rich Plasma Injections to the Rescue

When you suffer from back pain that stems from the intervertebral discs, it can hurt every time you move. The pain that often originates in a damaged vertebral disc sometimes is a direct result of degenerative disc disease. You need a powerful treatment for this kind of pain.

Platelet-rich plasma injections can help you overcome this debilitating discomfort that comes with back pain. A PRP  injection is rapidly becoming the go-to soft tissue treatment for pain and inflammation. They are so successful, in fact, that our regenerative joint medicine team was selected to be a part of the international medical team for the summer Olympic games in Rio.

Integrative Soft Tissue Treatments Are Here Now

PRP treatment is an FDA-approved injection that uses your body’s cells to reduce inflammation and heal most damage. Before a PRP injection, a sample of your blood is taken and placed in a centrifuge, where we isolate the platelet cells.

After we capture enough cells, the resulting plasma is then injected directly into the site of your injury or disease to heal the underlying source of the pain. The healing process then begins to work. You get this treatment right in the offices of ReBalance.

The PRP Injection Procedure

Whether you’re getting a PRP sacral injection or some other PRP treatment, you may be given a mild sedative before your injection. The area that’s going to receive the injection is numbed sufficiently. Small amounts of contrast dye, anesthetic, and antibiotics are then injected into the soft tissue with a small needle.

The blood cells that were prepared provide the PRP SI injection material you need. You undergo the entire process right in our NYC office. The PRP injection takes about 30 minutes; the whole process is completed within one to two hours.

What is the Success Rate of PRP Joint Injections?

PRP injections were first introduced in 1987 to support cardiac surgery in patients. In 1998, scientists found out that PRP can help increase the rate of bone graft maturity. Platelets have components in them that help speed up healing, therefore they are now used in joint injections for pain treatment.

In a study in which 15 patients used PRP joint injections in the knee, all patients showed significant improvement in knee pain. A year later, 8 patients reported they reached their individual knee injection goals.

In another study of 78 patients, half were injected with PRP for osteoarthritis knee pain and half received a placebo. Researchers found that those injected with PRP experienced knee pain relief, while those injected with the placebo experienced worse knee pain.

In another study of 120 patients, compared to the participants that received a placebo, those who received PRP injections experienced pain relief.

Most studies suggest that PRP is a safe and effective treatment for pain with no side effects.

Platelet Rich Plasma Injections and You

Avoid surgery and all its potential complications with functional medicine services. Instead, rely on your body’s own abilities for healing itself. Consider a PRP elbow injection for tennis elbow or a PRP knee injection to get you back running. You may skip a hip replacement for as long as you can with a PRP hip injection. Keep golfing and playing ball with a PRP shoulder injection.
